Environmental Efforts
Along with other departments in the Division of
Student Affairs, the Office of Student Conduct actively works to
better the environment in daily practice.
Waste Recycling
The
Office of Student Conduct has placed recycling bins in or near each
office to allow staff easy access to recycling containers for
mixed-paper. The bins in the hallway of the second floor of the
Mitchell Building also allow the staff to recycle bottles and cans.
Energy & Water Conservation
As a
coordinated effort the staff have placed signs next to light
switches as a reminder to turn off lights, heat/air conditioning,
and computers. Some staff members have resorted to “task lighting”
having a lamp on their individual desk, rather then using the
overhead florescent lighting. The Office refrigerator is kept at a
reasonable temperature, securely sealed, and defrosted regularly to
alleviate ice build up.
Salvage & Reuse
Many
items are salvaged and reused in the Office of Student Conduct.
Disciplinary folders are stripped of identifying information and
reused for future accused students. All sensitive documents are
shredded then recycled. Computer toner and printer cartridges are
collected and recycled. Paper and copies with non-confidential
information printed on the reverse side is used as “scrap” paper for
phone messages and notes.
Waste Reduction
To
reduce the amount of waste the staff produces many forms are
available electronically and many letters are sent electronically.
Mailings sent to regular constituents (police, referring faculty
members, drug testing administrator, etc.) are sent as a group
mailing, rather than in individual envelopes.
Product Purchasing
The
purchasing of products has decreased with standards for reusing and
salvaging products. Paper which is purchased for computer printing
and copying is a percentage recycled paper.
Participation of Students
As a
kick off to the school year, the office staff developed the motto of
“Have Integrity, Recycle” which was posted on individual doors and
displayed on bulletin boards in the hallway surrounding the office
suite.
Have
integrity...recycle!
